Lingerie Model is Now Modesty Director

Brenda Sharman sent True Feminism her story.

Brenda Sharman has been working as one of the Southeast's busiest professional models and commercial actresses for the last 20 years. She has appeared in numerous catalogs, magazines, fashion shows, and ad campaigns for clients such as Marriott, MGM Grand, Sandals Resorts, PGA Golf, Steinmart, and Elixsure cough medicine. She can also be found hosting industrial videos and appearing in numerous television commercials for clients from coast to coast.

In 1990, Brenda was crowned Miss Georgia USA after winning the first pageant she ever entered. She went on to finish among the top six in the 1990 Miss USA Pageant and from there was sent to represent the United States in the international "Miss Flower Queen Pageant" held in Osaka Japan. Brenda competed against women from 36 countries from around the world and won!

Today, Brenda especially enjoys working with her husband, Steve, who has also been one of the South's busiest models for the last 28 years. Their work as a "model couple" has taken them to exciting locations like Aruba, Barbados, Curacao, Jamaica and St. Lucia. They have three young sons who have joined the family business and enjoy working with Mom and Dad in print advertisements as well as modeling in Fashion Shows.

After growing up in an Agnostic family, Brenda’s search for God began in 1995 during her pregnancy with her first son, Stephen. Through the miracle and gift of becoming a mother, she felt a growing need to discover “Who is God? And, Where can I find Him?” Brenda realized her new responsibility as a mother to answer big questions like, “Where did I come from?” and she knew she had some studying to do! While reading about various world religions, Brenda also began to read the Bible and learn the differences between the Christian Churches she once assumed were the same.

After discovering the roots of Christianity and realizing the coherence of the Church Fathers with the modern Catholic Church, she knew that the Catholic Church was certainly the Church that Christ founded, and the one to which Christ was calling her. At the Easter Vigil in April of 1999 Brenda’s life was forever changed after receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation. “I immediately felt like a different person,” recalls Brenda. “I could definitely relate to 2 Corinthians 5:17 which says, ‘If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away and the new has come’.”

One of the areas of Brenda’s life that was deeply impacted by the realization that she had been called to be a “Woman of God”, was in the area of deciding what she would, or would not, model anymore. She no longer felt comfortable having a photograph of herself wearing undergarments in the Sunday newspaper although she had been modeling lingerie for most of her career. “I realized that our culture had grown increasingly more immodest, and indecent, and I had to decide if I was going to be part of the problem or part of the solution”, said Brenda. “I also realized that out of Christian charity, I should never knowingly or willingly lead another person into an occasion of sin by the way I look, act, dress or speak. My new measuring stick became, ‘Never do anything at work that I wouldn’t want shown to my entire Parish on a Sunday morning!’

At home in Atlanta, you will find Brenda teaching adult education classes, teaching PSR (CCD) in her local Parish and serving as the National Director for Pure Fashion, the countries fastest growing character formation program for teen girls!

As the founding national director of Pure Fashion, Brenda has helped Pure Fashion become one of the leading organizations in the Modesty Movement. Her insight into the world of fashion and advertising has helped to establish the Pure Fashion program as a fun and effective program which helps young women realize their inherent dignity and cultivates in them a desire to live, behave and dress in accordance with that dignity.

Since becoming the founding National Director of Pure Fashion in 2006, Brenda and the Pure Fashion program have been featured in media outlets such as The Dr. Phil show, Nightline, Life on the Rock, USA Today, Newsweek, the Wall Street Journal, Marie Claire magazine, and countless other newspaper and radio interviews.

With 26 cities in the U.S. offering the program along with programs in France, Italy, Belgium, Hungary, The Phillipines, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, and Canada, Pure Fashion is working to make an impact around the world!

With Pure Fashion focusing on young women dressing modestly and protecting their purity, Brenda truly believes that through Pure Fashion, we really can change our culture.... one outfit at a time!

Savia,

This is a wonderful story. I wish there was a way women like Brenda and Christina could begin some sort of movement to try to harness their experience, wisdom, and resolve and use it to light the fire of a revolution, because a REVOLUTION is exactly what is so badly needed.

I am looking forward to watching Brenda's testimony and reading her website. Converts are the backbone of the Church Militant and I am grateful for each and every one of them and the unique gifts they bring, and I thank them for the pride they inspire!

St. Ursula,

There are many young men and women who are doing revolutionary things and their stories need to be told.

What a nice story! And a gorgeous couple to boot! I think God sees a place for people like them who've been involved in the more morally corrupt side of meda, and have lived to come out the other side and become people of faith. Their testimony is powerful.
